Frequently asked questions!
What materials do you use?
For face-to-face lessons, I have a wide range of books covering different varieties of English, as well as games designed or suitable for language learning. For online lessons, I have a wide range of PDFs, audio recordings and online activities. You can see examples of my materials in the slideshow on the offer page.
Do you speak Polish?
Unfortunately, my vocabulary is currently better than my speaking skills. Polish grammar is more difficult for English speakers to master, and fast speech can be very difficult to understand. For this reason, I prefer to teach students at A2 level and above, rather than beginners or A1 level. Besides, lessons conducted entirely in English are much better practice!
Will I have homework?
Homework is absolutely essential for practice. Without it, you will not improve your fluency and you may forget what you have learned. However, if you do not want homework, e.g. due to lack of time, you do not have to do it.
How should I prepare for classes?
Please remember to bring your own pen and paper or have them on hand for online lessons, and remind your children to do this if they are taking part in the class. This is a good way to show preparation, initiative, and the ability to take notes on your own without being reminded.
Can I park at your house?
You can park in the driveway as long as you leave enough room for another car to pass you - my wife also needs to drive in and out. If the gate is closed, please do not block it on the street.
Do you teach children?
That's more my wife's area of expertise than mine. I can refer you to her to discuss the possibility of lessons with your child. However, if your child has skills beyond the classroom level, I could certainly teach them. I have taught children who have returned from the UK and Ireland and found the level of English in Polish schools is too low for them.
Do you teach during the summer?
Of course! Many American studies have shown that long school holidays can cause students to forget a lot of the material from the previous school year if they do not continue with at least a few lessons per week during the summer. This phenomenon is called "summer learning loss" and is particularly true for language learning. Adults should not stop learning during the summer, because their work rhythm does not change like that of children. So use it or forget it!
What else can I do at home besides homework?
You can borrow books from my library of graded readers, which are designed for students with different levels of English. You can also borrow children's books to read with your little ones. I also have PDF and audio versions for online students. If you want to practice listening, revise grammar or learn more about British culture, visit my YouTube channel - I'm sure you'll find something useful and interesting there!
Do you have any dogs or cats?
Yes, I have one small dog and two cats. They are all friendly towards strangers, although the dog barks when someone comes over. I keep them outside the classroom during lessons, but if they are likely to cause an allergic reaction, online lessons are a better option. If you decide to have in-person lessons, please make sure the gate is closed tightly as the dog can escape if he has the chance!
